When we don’t give people the opportunity to fail, we prevent them from needing to think.

We need to hang up, leave behind or cut the electronic leashes that hamper our ability to free our minds and our time. We have to remember that EVERY trip is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The problem with this understandable response to a compliance crisis is that corporations with overblown compliance programs may end up becoming less able to manage their legal and ethical risks.

The advice we give is limited by the information we have, information that is inherently biased even if we have seen it with our own eyes.

It is crucial for new in-house counsel to know best practices of various industries and organisations in hiring and training legal talent in India.

The outside law firm consists of approximately 30 percent women and various diverse attorneys from around the world. In this article, we intend to highlight two aspects of diversity that have received little attention in legal literature to date, which we call “experiential diversity” and “global diversity.”

This article is designed to give you a path forward in this changing environment. We’ll begin with an overview of EQ. Then we’ll discuss two barriers — unique to us as lawyers — that often impair our development of this important skill set. Finally, we’ll take a trip to the EQ Gym for a few workouts designed to get us into shape.
