Because of some public distrust of Artificial Intelligence (AI), steps have been taken to address it. This article provides an overview of the United Kingdom's (UK’s) Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation’s (CDEI) landmark review of bias in AI.

The review made four major points: (1) people should not view AI through a “simplistic” lens of ‘human decision-making fairer: AI: decision-making risker’; (2) algorithms have different, but related, vulnerabilities to human decision-making processes; (3) governments bear a special duty of care in utilizing AI; and (4) existing regulatory approaches are too slow to respond to the new ways algorithms are already impacting people’s lives.
