Speakers
Since July 2018, Katrina has been the National Legal Operations Lead for Origin Energy, a role she describes as helping the Origin Legal team manage change. One of her highlights was to successfully lead the Origin Legal team in implementing a fully integrated matter management and document management system, underpinned by a transformation program to change the way the team worked.
Prior to stepping into this role, Katrina was a lawyer at Origin for 5 years advising the Retail business on all things customer. Before joining Origin, Katrina was a lawyer at King & Wood Mallesons for over a decade.
Carolyn Austin's focus is on the intersection between legal innovation and technology, knowledge management, and solutions design. As Director of Knowledge and Practice Support, she leads a team of senior practice support lawyers and specialist technicians across Australia, and is responsible for the delivery of quality, comprehensive precedents and knowledge services, document automation, and digital adoption. Starting her career as a commercial litigation lawyer, Carolyn brings over 25 years' experience in legal knowledge management. For many years, she was a sessional lecturer in Knowledge Management Strategies in the Masters of Digital Information at the University of Technology, Sydney.
As co-lead of the K&L Gates Australian Innovation Committee, and a founding member of the K&L Gates global innovation committee (IDEA Group), she is dedicated to finding new ways to improve client service delivery, improving efficiency, and fostering a culture which thrives on innovation. She has overseen the successful implementation of projects including visual communication of legal advice, client collaboration portals, artificial intelligence tools and document automation applications.
A career highlight was facilitating a successful design-thinking based Hack Day for the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2019.
