Speakers
Kristen Smith, Investment Management Team Co-Lead
Kristen oversees the due diligence and investment activities for single party and portfolio investments of the Australian Investment Management team and is also responsible for due diligence and management of funded cases through to resolution.
Kristen has extensive litigation experience and brings key skills to the project management aspects of complex litigation and has previously worked on numerous successful class action matters and large scale out-of-court dispute resolution schemes with major financial institutions.
Kristen previously worked in Slater and Gordon’s Commercial and Project Litigation team, and at Dundas & Wilson (now CMS) in Scotland and as an Associate to the Supreme Court of Victoria’s Associate Justice Efthim. In 2004 she was awarded the Victoria Law Foundation Chief Justice’s Medal for Excellence and Community Service.
Steven Clayton, Senior Legal Counsel (Oceania), HERE Technologies
Steve is an experienced corporate lawyer who has spent the majority of his career working in-house at multinational companies. He has broad experience advising on a variety of matters, including commercial transactions and contracting, intellectual property, employment, technology, privacy, disputes, governance, risk and regulatory compliance. Steve prides himself on being a trusted adviser that provides no-nonsense, straightforward, and solutions-focused legal advice to quickly achieve business objectives.
In his current role, he works for a global technology company as the sole legal counsel supporting the Oceania-region. Steve partners closely with key stakeholders and routinely counsels senior managers on all things legal.
Steve holds a Bachelors of Laws and a Bachelor of Business (Management) from Griffith University. He is currently studying at the Governance Institute of Australia and is an active member of the ACC Australia - sitting on a number of state and national sub-committees.
Rebecca Taube, Deputy General Counsel, RMIT University
Rebecca Taube is Deputy General Counsel at RMIT University, supporting the Online and Industry Engagement portfolios, as well as RMIT Activator, the university's entrepreneurial start up incubator.
At L'Oreal, Rebecca provided leadership for legal innovation projects including automated contracts & advice tools, & legal support for digital, data & e-commerce business initiatives.
At Myer, Rebecca was responsible for corporate governance, the Company Secretariat function, IT & IP contracting, privacy, competition & consumer law advice, & merchandise supply, across the ASX listed retail business. She has a depth of expertise in strategic advisory support, drafting, negotiation, legal risk analysis as well as IP asset management.
Rebecca’s experience also includes working at King & Wood Mallesons; as Justice Crennan's Associate in the High Court of Australia; as a Research Associate in the Federal Court of Australia and completing her articles at Herbert Smith Freehills.
