With the launch of three new reports offering detailed data on law department staffing, spending, and work volume, ACC expands its custom benchmarking services.

WASHINGTON (May 23, 2018) — With the launch of three new reports offering detailed data on law department staffing, spending, and work volume, the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) this week expands its custom benchmarking services for corporate legal departments around the world.

Responding to increased interest from chief legal officers (CLOs), general counsel (GCs), and legal operations professionals to track key legal management metrics and compare their department to others of similar size, industry, and company revenue profiles, ACC now offers supplemental benchmarking reports. Furthermore, companies can request custom reports tailored to more precise differentiators or including other specific benchmarking metrics.

Released this week, ACC's large, mid-size, and small company research supplements offer benchmarking data across more than a dozen categories, including law department work allocation, legal department spend as a percentage of company gross revenue, spend distribution, and number of staff per $1 billion in company revenue. All data is derived from the responses of nearly 1,300 CLOs and GCs in 48 countries.

The Large Company Supplement includes data from more than 132 legal departments, all at companies with at least $3 billion in annual gross revenue. The report features industry breakouts for healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, and retail trade. The Mid-size Company Supplement includes data from 655 corporate law departments, all at companies with revenues between $100 million and $2.9 billion, with 20 industry breakouts. Finally, the Small Company Supplement includes data from 485 corporate law departments, all with less than $100 million in annual gross revenue. There are 15 small company industry breakouts.

The supplemental reports and capability to produce custom benchmarking reports complement other ACC opportunities for corporate legal departments to track and improve their law department management, including the ACC Maturity Model.
