ACC and University of Delaware will host a panel discussion on how companies can protect their brand and maintain high ethical standards across all facets of their global business operations.

WASHINGTON (April 6, 2017) — The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), a global legal association representing more than 42,000 in-house counsel in 85 countries, alongside the University of Delaware, will host a panel discussion, "Volkswagen Emission Scandal – Lessons for Investors, Boards, Chief Legal Officers, and Compliance and Governance Professionals," on how companies can protect their brand and maintain high ethical standards across all facets of their global business operations.

What:

Panelists will address steps that boards, chief legal officers, compliance, and governance professionals can take to avoid problems such as those recently faced by Volkswagen in the controversy. Corporate lawyers hailing from Abercrombie & Fitch, UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust, McDonald's Corp., Jenner & Block, and the Delaware Supreme Court, among others, will discuss:

  • The role of Volkswagen's board of directors and whether it was actively monitoring management.
  • Whether the use of dual class stock exacerbated any problems.
  • The role of the company's unique governance structure.
  • Impact of the executive compensation structure on the compliance culture.
