ACC Singapore Chapter shares that they “are open to collaborating with the Singapore International Mediation Centre and other global leaders in dispute resolution.”

Washington – The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) supports mediation efforts generally as an effective and cost-efficient way to address commercial disputes between national and international organizations. As such, the ACC Singapore Chapter, with over 500 in-house members, recently signed a declaration put forth by the Singapore International Mediation Centre.

“ACC Singapore appreciates the Singapore International Mediation Centre for reaching out on this initiative and we are open to collaborating with SIMC and other global leaders in dispute resolution,” said Terry Thornley, ACC Singapore Chapter president and general counsel, APAC, Spencer Stuart. “When organizations are unable to come to an agreement, it is often in everyone’s best interest to consider mediation as a timely and efficient option. The increase in professional services offered by SIMC and other similar mediation organizations around the world are a welcome development giving in-house counsel additional options when seeking the best outcome for their client.”

The SIMC declaration states:

Accordingly, we declare support for the mediation process as follows:

1. We will encourage our members to consider mediation, whether on its own or with other methods of dispute resolution, where they are faced with a commercial dispute; and

2. We are open to collaborating with the Singapore International Mediation Centre on mediation-related initiatives, like talks and training, as well as encouraging access to professional mediation services.
