A recent sexual harassment court case in China, in which a high-profile TV personality was accused of sexual misconduct, has highlighted the importance of social media and the #MeToo movement in helping to foster change in China with regards to amending the Civil Code to account for such crimes.

On 1 January 2021, Article 1010 of the PRC Civil Code established new principles on what constitutes sexual harassment, expands the scope of the recipients to include men and introduced specific obligations and potential liability for employers as well.
